Tranmere Rovers FC - Prenton Park
REIDsteel designed
and erected three award winning grandstands at Tranmere Rovers' Prenton
Park. The replacement of the older stands was the club's reaction to
the Taylor Report, which suggested that all stadiums in the top two
divisions of English football should no longer permit standing.
The stands include the Kop stand, with a capacity of 5696, the Cowshed
stand with a cantilevered scoreboard at the front facia (capacity of
2500), and the Johnny King stand (capacity 2414). The fourth stand (the
'main stand') was constructed in the 1960s and still remains at Prenton
Park.
Tranmere Rovers received the Football League Achievement Award for one
of the best four projects in the UK.
